On the 9th of September in 2015, Queen Elizabeth II became the longest-reigning monarch and now, in 2022, she will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee.
If you’ve had a tradition of watching the Queen on your TV giving speeches at Christmas time, or you like to keep up with her public appearances throughout the year, then you’ll want to celebrate this event.
But, how can you get involved and honour the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee? Are there specific events you can attend?
For those people interested in celebrating the Queen, this article is for you! Keep reading to find out more about this marvellous event.

Queen Elizabeth II and Her Life

Queen Elizabeth II was crowned when she was twenty-seven years old. Since then, she has served Britain for decades and continues to hold her place in the royal palace today.
In 2016, she also celebrated her 90th birthday and has already held her diamond jubilee in 2012. Now, you might be wondering, with all these milestones why is it important to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee?
Considering no other monarch has ever reached their Platinum Jubilee this is truly a once in a lifetime event!

Historically, jubilees have been celebrated with fireworks, feasts, and special processions. This event has existed since the 1300s so it’s an essential part of British culture.
The good news is, you don’t need to travel to Buckingham Palace to be able to celebrate this big event. There are hundreds of street parties planned across the country, and you can host an intimate family party as well. If you’re looking for ways to get involved in the Jubilee 2022 then the next section has everything you need.

1. The Queen’s Birthday Parade

On the first day of the holiday, there will be a huge birthday parade with 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians. This is by far one of the most visually striking events of the whole celebration!
Normally, this parade will be broadcast on TV so you’ll be able to watch it with your friends and family at home.

2. Service of Thanksgiving

On Friday the 3rd of June there is the Service of Thanksgiving. This event is less extravagant and is held in St Paul’s Cathedral.

3. Platinum Party at the Palace

Of course, no party is complete without some music. Therefore, on the 4th of June, there will be a live concert at Buckingham Palace. The great thing about this event is that members of the public will be able to attend.
The details of these tickets will be released closer to the time so you can keep an eye out online for more details!

4. The Big Jubilee Lunch

The final event is held on the last day of the Jubilee weekend, which is on Sunday the 5th of June. This is the best time to get involved in this milestone and honour the Queen.
You can mark this occasion with your community by hosting a street party, organising a BBQ, or having a small picnic with loved ones. It doesn’t need to be big; you can even have a takeaway with your family!
Besides the official events that are taking place, there are other personal ways you can do something extra special for this big day.

You can pick your favourite restaurant and take your friends or family out for a big meal. Afterwards, you can go home and watch the live concert on the TV.
Alternatively, you can plan an afternoon tea party and decorate your home with bunting and lovely accessories to mark this amazing event. There are many online sellers and shops that will sell decorations for the Jubilee.
But, if you want to do something a little more adventurous then you can take a trip to London and soak up the atmosphere near Buckingham Palace!
